Webinar series Human Factors
Module 3: Getting Stress and Fatigue Under Control
How stress influences decisions – and how people remain capable of acting even under pressure
Stress is part of everyday work. But what actually happens to our thinking when time pressure, uncertainty or workload become too high?
Under strain, our perception changes. We focus on individual aspects, lose sight of the bigger picture more easily and make decisions differently than under normal conditions. Communication changes, priorities shift and the likelihood of errors increases.
These reactions are not a sign of a lack of competence.
They are human.
This is precisely why human factors research has for decades been concerned with the question of how people can act safely, effectively and efficiently even under high strain.
The focus is therefore on questions such as:
- How do stress and fatigue influence our perception?
- Why does tunnel vision occur?
- Why do decisions change under time pressure?
- How do we recognise our own performance limits in good time?
- Which strategies help us to remain capable of acting even under strain?
Aim of the webinar
This webinar teaches the fundamentals of human performance under strain, taking human factors into account.
You will learn how stress and fatigue influence perception, communication and decision-making, and which strategies help you remain capable of acting even in demanding situations.
Drawing on proven practices from safety-critical working environments, you will get to know strategies that enable people to decide and act in a structured way even under high strain.
